Ezekiel 36:26 “I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh.”

Last week, as I was driving home from work I saw an intoxicated homeless man standing on a sidewalk. In one hand he was holding up his bicycle and in the other he had an opened 24-pack of beer.

As a street officer, I remember dealing with many intoxicated homeless people. I could not understand how they would allow themselves to get to that point. Even though I knew God, I had become indifferent to whatever was going on in their lives. But as the years passed, I realized that although I knew God back then, I really did not know God. I didn’t have a true relationship with Him, one that gives you a new heart.

As I looked at this man now, I saw him through the eyes of a believer first and not as a police officer. I felt burdened for him and I wanted to ask: What happened in your life that has brought you to this place? What is this place where you need alcohol to drown out the pain you are in? I prayed for him and I pray that he would be healed of whatever burdens he is carrying.

Praying that we would all have a new heart to see others through His eyes and not ours.

Have a blessed week everyone!

Humbled to serve,

Jorge
