James 1:22 Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. 23 Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror 24 and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like.
Great morning family,
On Friday night, we studied Luke chapter 7, “The Faith of the Centurion.” So much took place in the first 10 verses. This Centurion soldier valued one of his servants so much that he seeked Jesus to heal him. The Jews vouched for this Roman soldier by saying he loved the nation and built a synagogue for them, which was unheard of during this time since Romans looked at the Jews as less than. There is so much more, of course, but ultimately this one man’s faithfulness moved Jesus and it continues to move readers today.
Hold on to that as I turn a corner.
Over the years, I have spoken to many who have told me they are not doers of the word because they are only one person and what impact can they make? Imagine if we all thought this way. Where would we be? Where would our faith be? Together and with God, we can move mountains, but that requires all of us to be “doers.” Our Godly actions, no matter how small, will have a ripple effect.
Going back to the story of The Centurion, this one man’s faithfulness changed lives and it saved his servant’s life. Jesus was so moved by his faith that He said: “I tell you, I have not found such great faith even in Israel.” What incredible thing did he do? He took a step, sought out Jesus, and allowed God to do the rest. I underlined and emphasized the word: REST. Once you have taken a step, rest knowing that He will move.
As you reflect on this, remember that it is not you, but what God can do through you if you are willing to let Him.
Praying you have a blessed and peaceful week. Humbled to serve,
Jorge
