Titus 1:15: Everything is pure to those whose hearts are pure. But nothing is pure to those who are corrupt and unbelieving, because their minds and consciences are corrupted.
I’ve read a few articles about the horrific incident in Memphis. Everyone has expressed their sorrow for the family, how they feel unqualified to write anything about it and how they lack the proper words. I’m in the same boat. My heart goes out to the family of Tyre Nichols. I’m so sorry for their pain. To these men that did this, I cannot address them as officers and if I’m being transparent, it’s been difficult praying for them.
To my LEO brothers and sisters. I know we are in a challenging place. We are angry at these men who betrayed the badge, but at the same time, some hate us because we are officers. This has pained me because I know of so many righteous officers. I want you to know this, I need you to know this: THAT IS NOT YOU! You did not do that, you would not do that. You’ve been called to one of the most difficult professions, but know that you are good. You represent law and order and that was established by God. My prayer is that you would keep your head up high with your eyes on Jesus, keep being righteous, and keep being the line that defends those who are defenseless. I will not shy away from telling anyone I am a police officer. I am not embarrassed for serving. I am not those men and I will never be those men. If someone chooses to hate me, then they can. I would still protect them with my life. And as a Christian, I will try to show them the love Jesus has shown me.
The more divided and chaotic things become, the more I am reminded that the only One who can heal this chaos is Jesus. So, that is who I will continue to seek in every circumstance and I encourage you to do the same. Without Him, there is no hope.
Keep your head up brothers and sisters! You are awesome! Do not allow the actions of a few to derail where God has called you to serve.
May He go with you wherever you go, in Jesus’ name.
