So, I have a BIG announcement: I am retiring!!! I have attached my letter, which sums up why I am retiring now and not later. It has nothing to do with the job. I love being a police officer and I will stay on as a reserve officer, chaplain and chaplain supervisor. I feel truly blessed by this as the chaplaincy is dear to my heart.
Last Thursday, I had an impromptu last roll call. The plan was to have a small luncheon with my unit and then go to the training unit for whoever wanted to come by for a hug. Then, my last radio call as a supervisor would happen at 3:30. Well, things got moved around without me knowing and many people showed up during the luncheon. I was moved by what many shared, but I was also also incredibly moved by a few who are known to be outspoken but who stayed silent, only to then tell me in private that they wanted to share, but could not get the words out. At 3:30, as my last radio call went out, I got very choked up. The dispatcher did a great job, and I was moved by all those who got on the radio and wished me well! I’ve watched this video several times and tears still roll down my face.
This decision was a painful one for me, but I know God has called me to do more in ministry. I humbly ask that you keep me and my family in prayer as we start this new chapter. I look forward to spending more time with God, my wife and my son.
I will be taking a short hiatus with my family and will be disconnected for about a month or so, but I am leaving you in great hands!
