Matthew 6:19-21 “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

Good morning family,
The other day I was speaking to one of my neighbors and the topic of “material things” came up. I told him how for many years of my life I wanted (or felt I needed) material things, such as name brand clothing, nice jewelry or the latest phone. While we spoke, I was reminded about my father-in-law. He was a very humble man. I remember showing showing him all of the nice things I was buying or buying for my wife and he would smile out of courtesy, but that would not move him. He was moved by the simple things in life. 

Lately, I’ve found myself not being as moved by material things like I used to. Instead of the name brand or the latest phone, I prefer the quiet moments with God. Spending time with my family. The simple things. 
As I spoke with my neighbor and remembered my father-in-law and my own past, I realized that back then, I was looking to material things for my identity. Today, I look toward God for my identity. He tells me who I am. I now know that I am worth so much more than a watch, clothing, or anything that can be purchased. So are you. The things of this world are temporary and ever changing. Jesus is ever present. My identity is no longer in the things of this world, but instead is found in Christ. 

Praying that you always find your identity in Christ and not from the things of this world.
