Therapy comes in many different forms for many different people for many different reasons. You may not know, but therapy dogs are real and they provide a type of therapy that is different than anything else. They provide a sense of comfort, peace, patience, ease, love, especially during times of crisis.
During the first few days following the devastation that had taken over our South Florida community, piecing together ways to safely provide comfort and peace was a priority, especially to the first responders and families affected by this tragedy. Immediately, Tom Savoca and Coco: German Shepherd Dog jumped in to serve our community.
Tom and Coco are volunteers for The City of Margate, to include the Margate Police Department. You will catch this duo participating at almost every event that we host, bringing love and smiles to faces of children and adults of every age! There is something about the calmness and kindness that Tom and Coco bring to our community that brings a real sense of peace.
Coco provided comfort to first responders who were working tirelessly in search of any survivors in the wreckage. She provided a temporary distraction from the scene around them.
Coco and Tom are two important pieces of Margate and we are grateful to have had them represent our agency and city, and provide support during a time of grief. To all of the first responders and families and loved ones who are still coping with this collapse, please know that the Margate Police Department stands beside you.
