Luke 12:24 Consider the ravens: They do not sow or reap, they have no storeroom or barn; yet God feeds them. And how much more valuable you are than birds!

Rice

As many of you may know, I grew up in a single parent home. When I was younger, I used to take a bus to a lady’s house who would take care of me after school because my mom had to work late. I remember that by the time I got there, I was so hungry but had nothing to eat. I asked her for food once and she told me that she wasn’t getting paid to feed me.

One day, the lady was making some rice and burnt it. She was going to throw it away, and I asked her if I could have it instead. She handed me the pot and I ate it with incredible joy. As time passed, she burnt more rice and would give it to me and I continued to eat it with joy.

The other day, my wife was making some rice and the bottom burnt a little. She took out what she could and left the rest in the pot. When I saw it, I scraped it out and ate it. Doing so brought me great memories. That might sound weird to some of you. At face value, the story above was nothing great. But, for me, the story reminds me that when I was hungry, I had something to eat. That was a huge blessing. Having a full stomach was wonderful. Eating my wife’s burnt rice was a great reminder that when a situation or circumstance does not seem ideal, there might be a hidden blessing in it.

Praying that this week, no matter what the situation may be, that God reveals a blessing through it.

Humbled to serve,

Jorge
