Matthew 3:13 Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to be baptized by John. 14 But John tried to deter him, saying, “I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?” 15 Jesus replied, “Let it be so now; it is proper for us to do this to fulfill all righteousness.” Then John consented. 16 As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting on him.17 And a voice from heaven said, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.”
Happy Monday family,
I cannot put into words how amazing Saturday was! The stories are endless and the overwhelming joy I felt has left me short of words. God moved in a mighty way. We had 13 people get baptized, including a six year old girl who loves Jesus so much! I was especially moved because my son decided to get baptized when he was there, and I had the incredible honor of baptizing him alongside a dear friend. If you missed it, don’t worry! We plan to continue doing this every six months or so. We will give plenty of notice, so you can attend if you would like to.
But here is something for you to ponder on, or as I like to say: “Chew On.” I know many were baptized as infants, as I was, and I’ve been asked: “Why should I get baptized again?” There are many reasons, but the simplest is the example in the scripture above. Jesus didn’t have to get baptized, but He did. He could have had it done as an infant, but He did not. I believe He did this so that others could see He was making the decision to get baptized on His own. This gives you an opportunity to make this decision on your own. Baptism does not save. It is an outward expression of your faith for others to witness, but I personally think it is more than that. For me, it is an outward expression for Jesus to witness. To show Him you want to follow in His footsteps the best that you can.
Jesus set the example for all of us to follow. Pray about what you can surrender to Jesus to walk closer in His footsteps.
Humbled to serve,
Jorge
