Good evening family,
Today is an historic day in Miami-Dade County. Miami-Dade Commissioners unanimously voted to make today the 1st Miami-Dade County Law Enforcement Appreciation Day an official holiday. I do not know of any other place in the nation that has done this. To all of the men and women who serve and have served, I thank you for your selflessness. I know at times how hard it has been to put on the uniform, but it is what we were called to do. Know that you will be, at times, showered with hate and anger, but that is by and large the voice of very few. I know countless people, many who are in this email group, who support you and love you.
Know that you are amazing. Keep your head up high and stand the line. Remember that Jesus is there for you and so are we.
God keep you all safe,
Jorge
“Today is the first official Law Enforcement Appreciation Day in Miami-Dade. Commission Chair Jose Pepe Diaz introduced the unanimously passed resolution making this day a paid holiday for all law enforcement officers after the defund the police movement. He says these men and women put their lives on the line daily and deserve our respect. He says they’ve also had to deal with the double whammy of a pandemic and increased gun violence in the county. The holiday falls on the Friday before National Police Week”
