A couple of weeks ago, I found a jacket that I used for a “wear something ugly” Christmas dinner. As I was looking at it, I felt God telling me that I needed to wear it for Saturday night’s meeting. I did my best to convince God otherwise, because it would be incredibly humiliating, but He is SO loving and patient with me, that the morning of the meeting, He gave me a prayer (picture below) that spoke about why I needed to wear the jacket. And I knew He would use it for something great.
As we started the night, I shared a few words of welcome and before I prayed, I put the jacket on (picture below). As you can see, it is very distracting and I got a few odd looks. I shared that this season is full of distractions. We have Black Friday sales, pre-Black Friday sales, dinners, vacation planning, deciding what to eat, what to make to eat, where to go–the distractions are endless. And what happens is that all of these distractions cause us to miss what God has called us to do and the meaning of this season, which then leads us to The Greatest Gift the world has ever known, the birth of Jesus Christ!
We have to remove all of our distractions the way I removed this “ugly jacket” so that we can focus on all we have been given, including the birth of Our Savior.
I felt foolish wearing the jacket, but God used it for His glory. I had further confirmation when Carla shared her beautiful and personal message and read from the book of Ezra 9:3 which speaks about tearing off the cloak.
God works in wondrous ways if we allow Him to work in and through us. Praying that we could see and remove all the distractions that prevent us from enjoying this season with Him.
