Good morning family,
Last Wednesday, the day after my ER stint, I walked outside to get some fresh air and saw a mosquito fly by. This reminded me that my wife had mentioned we needed to call 311 because of them. I walked back in and called them about 9:30 in the morning. Not even a couple of hours later, around 11 am, she noticed a truck in front of our house. I looked and it was the county mosquito truck. I was very surprised, especially since they had told us it would be a couple of days. I walked out and as the gentleman was walking up, I said: “You guys are awesome. I just called this morning.” He looked at me and said jokingly, “You are special.” And I replied, “You are right. I am special. I am a child of God!” At this moment he stared at me and said he was also a child of God. We spoke for a while about faith and he began to cry, especially after sharing with me how much he needed to be encouraged. He then cried out to The Lord thanking Him for this intercession. It reminded me of Old Testament times, when they would cry out to The Lord and He would answer.
Eventually, we got to the back yard to deal with the mosquitos. I asked him if he had been to our house before, and he said no, but after looking around, he said he had, indeed, been here before. I told him that several months ago someone came out to spray my neighbors’ yards. Since I was not home, my neighbor asked him to spray my yard (at our request), but when my neighbor mentioned I was a police officer, the man said: “I am not going back there unless the homeowner gives me permission. I don’t want to be shot.” After I told him the story, this gentleman responded: “That was me!” I was so happy to know it was him. I told him how I had been praying that we would meet because I wanted him to know that I would never shoot him. His eyes opened wide because he realized that not only was a believer, but also a police officer who shared the love of Jesus with him. Before he left, I prayed over him.
I realized then that the whole ordeal at the ER was leading to this moment. While I know I need to take care of myself physically, and I am grateful and humbled for all your prayers, I realized the events that led to the ER were a spiritual battle. The enemy knew God was orchestrating a beautiful encounter so he was trying to tear me down so I would not even want to speak to this gentleman and witness God’s perfect timing.
For those who might not fully understand a spiritual battle, look at it this way. Have you ever been tempted, be it, with alcohol, anger, judgment, lusting, jealousy, or something else? All of those things do not come from God, but from the enemy who is trying to pull you away from God. These types of temptations can only be fought with prayer.
Father, I thank you for everyone who You have brought around me to encourage me, guide me and pray for me. I ask that you please cover each and every one of them and their families, in Jesus name!
Amen.
PS: I shared this story with my neighbor last night and he told me he has called the mosquito control several times and the same person has never come out twice.
Humbled to serve,
Jorge
