Matthew 5:4 Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.

Good morning family,

I struggled whether or not to write something about 9/11 because my words could never capture the bravery and pain of so many that day, a pain that runs so deep. I needed to pray and reflect on what He would want me to share. So much went through my mind. I thought about the victims, the first responders, and the families who would forever be changed. I thought about the impact on our nation. I thought about those that did this atrocity and how it reminded me of the anger that had filled me. I thought about how every year for the past twenty years, this was like a wound that was starting to heal but whose scab would be ripped off yearly, causing the pain to be felt again. It reminded me how all of this was so unfair.

But through this time of prayer and reflection, I thought about Jesus on the cross. The pain He went through and the unfairness He was going through. And while He was enduring this incredible pain, He said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.”

These men who did this horrible thing had lost souls much like those who beat, persecuted and killed Jesus. They had a spiritual blindness we still see today, sometimes in those around us. Maybe those we know are not not as evil, but they have hardened hearts that refuse to seek anything else but the darkness they live in.

And it is in difficult times like these that we need to reflect and love more. Especially on those who have hardened their hearts towards Jesus.

Father, I pray that You would please heal the wounds of those who are suffering. Not only the ones impacted by the events of 9/11, but also those who have endured something in their lives that has caused them to hate You or turn their backs on You. And Father, I pray that You would please help us love others the way You love us.

God bless you everyone and God bless America.

Jorge
