Titus 3:3-5 At one time we too were foolish, disobedient, deceived and enslaved by all kinds of passions and pleasures. We lived in malice and envy, being hated and hating one another. But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy.
Good morning family and Happy Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. day!!
Recent circumstances have come up over and over reminding me of why many have left, or are leaving, their relationship with Christ. I heard a story the other day that broke my heart about a man leaving his faith. He made various arguments, but at the end he said, “I saw how Christians say they are Christ like, but do not act like Him.” He would see the hypocrisy before he even left the parking lot of the church.
This was a painful reminder that our issues with God continues to circle back to the same thing over and over again…. People putting their faith in men or women who have let them down. These people have hurt them or disappointed them because they should have or could have been different. Their actions derailed them. To be transparent, this angers me for so many reasons…. It shows Christians forgetting how they were saved by His grace and by His grace alone, not by their works or because of themselves. It shows Christians feeling and acting as if they were greater than others when they are just as broken. It shows people abusing the beautiful opportunity God gave them to minister and love others.
I’ve often found myself apologizing for being a Christian, not because of my faith in Jesus–because I will scream about Him from the mountain tops–but for our failures.
So my plea to you is this: Take a moment to look in the mirror. What do you see? Chances are that you see someone who has been forgiven, someone who is loved by Jesus. If He was able to change Saul’s heart and He was able to change me, He is capable of all things. Sometimes, we just need to let Jesus be Jesus. Trust Him that He will see things through. When you are given an opportunity, always point them to The One who is able. Allow Jesus to navigate their steps. He is much better at this than we are.
May each of you have an opportunity to love like Jesus this week.
