Romans 8:24 “For in hope we have been saved, but hope that is seen is not hope; for who hopes for what he already sees?”
Good morning and Happy New Year!
I cannot believe that we have arrived to 2020!! When I was younger, I thought that in 2020 cars flying would be a normal sight and flying to the moon could be a weekend getaway. But as time passed, that 20/20 vision of the future did not come to fruition. What I expected to happen and what actually happened where very different.
At the end of each year, we often take time to reflect on our lives–both the wonderful and not-so-wonderful. Many of us will start the new year committed to making changes in our lives that we feel are needed in order to improve ourselves. While we should always seek to improve, it’s important to remember that just like the 20/20 vision of the future, the paths we expect our lives to take are not always those that God wants us to take.
As a young officer, my focus was catching bad guys, one day becoming a detective and looking forward to the possibility of getting promoted. If you would have told me that one day I would be doing God’s work, I would have smiled politely and thought, You’re crazy! But I realized that God had a different vision for me. He wanted me to encourage the men and women in my department to know that they do not stand alone in their faith. He wanted me to be a part of this amazing ministry, The Miami-Dade FCPO. And, He wanted me to love like Him.
So here I am, incredibly grateful for God’s vision. Through this process, I have found that although my eyesight has deteriorated, my vision has not because everyday I do my best to continue growing in Him.
I pray that as you reflect in this New Year that you would open your hearts to hear what plans God has for you. May His 20/20 vision take root and unfold into your 2020.
Blessed by serving,
Jorge
